Extreme cold weather boots made for the Arctic. Airtight molded vulcanized rubber shell on the sole and upper with a layered felt interior. There is a valve above the ankle that adjusts to allow a little bit of ventilation. The valve must be turned open while airborne to relieve the pressure of high altitude that would otherwise constrict blood and oxygen flow to the lower extremities. A vital design detail that also makes them look pretty unique and science-fictiony. They garnered the nickname, Mickey Mouse boots because of their cartoonish proportions.
These boots run big and are sized 1 - 1.5 sizes below your typical shoe size. We have two sizes both from the early 1980s:
